Alice Caronna nasce a Palermo nel 1982. Nel 2006 si laurea in Scienze della Comunicazione all'Università di Bologna, dove ha l’opportunità di approfondire la Storia del Cinema e le sue teorie estetiche. Nello stesso anno si trasferisce a Madrid per lavorare alla Filmoteca Española (Cineteca Nazionale Spagnola), dove partecipa all’organizzazione delle rassegne mensili. Frequenta diversi corsi di montaggio digitale e su pellicola e, nel 2007, si iscrive alla London Film Academy, dove ha l’opportunità di lavorare su numerosi cortometraggi e dove viene scelta come Direttore della Fotografia dell’anno.
Into the light, il suo primo corto da regista, è stato selezionato da numerosi festival in Europa e negli Stati Uniti ed ha vinto la Palma d’Oro al Mexico International Film Festival 09.
Ha recentemente girato un documentario in Palestina e prodotto un cortometraggio basato sulla sceneggiatura originale della scrittrice best-seller Ahdaf Soueif con Khalid Abdalla (United 93, Il cacciatore di aquiloni) nel ruolo del protagonista.
Vive e lavora a Londra.

Alice Caronna was born in Italy and read Media Studies at the University of Bologna, where she had the opportunity to deepen her knowledge of the History of Cinema and its aesthetic theory. She worked for the Filmoteca Española (Spanish National Film Archive) in Madrid, where she was in charge of organizing monthly retrospectives. She attended several linear and non-linear editing courses and, in 2007, enrolled in the Diploma course at the London Film Academy – where she had the opportunity to work on several short films in different key roles. She was selected as Cinematographer of the Year 2008 and her first short film Into the light has been screened in several film festivals across Europe and the USA and won the Golden Palm Award at the Mexico International Film Festival. She has recently shot a documentary in Palestine and has just finished producing a short film based on an original screenplay by best-selling novelist Ahdaf Soueif and starring Khalid Abdalla (United 93, The Kite Runner).

Il tema centrale di Into the light è la fede, senza però nessuna connotazione religiosa. E le fate non sono altro che la sua rappresentazione visiva.
Il personaggio principale è Jack, un uomo razionale e disilluso, che a causa di tutte le sventure che hanno colpito sé e la sua famiglia sembra aver perso la speranza e la fede nella vita. Ed è solo quando è alla disperata ricerca della figlia scomparsa che Jack è pronto a credere nell’impossibile pur di ritrovarla.
Non è importante se le fate siano reali o no. Ciò che conta è quanto sia cruciale continuare ad avere fede anche quando tutto sembra perduto.

What attracted me to the script is what I saw underneath the surface of the events that happen in the story. The central theme of the film is faith, but without any religious connotation. And the fairies are the visual representation of it.
The main character is a rational and disillusioned man who, after all the bad things that have happened to his family, seems to have lost the hope. And it’s only when he is desperately looking for his lost daughter that he takes a leap of faith and is ready to believe in the impossible in order to find her. It’s not important whether the fairies are real or not. What matters is how crucial is to believe in something even when everything seems to be lost.
